Patch v. 2.0022
ZOA:ZERO » Devlog
Here are the release notes for Patch Alpha 2.0022, re-formatted for clarity and consistency.
Patch Alpha 2.0022 Release Notes :)
- Save Compatibility: This patch is 100% compatible with all existing save files.
Critical Bugfixes
- Fixed a game-freeze that occurred after battle if your starter Zoa was damaged while the Professor was following you. (The Professor was incorrectly trying to auto-heal your party instead of waiting for you to talk to him, causing the event to lock.)
- Fixed a crash that could sometimes happen when a Zoa learned a new move.
- Fixed an issue where background music and ambient sounds would not restore correctly after loading a save file.
- Stored sound assets are now compatible across different game versions, which will prevent future audio bugs. (Thanks to Farengaa for reporting!)
- NPC names will no longer reset incorrectly after completing an event. (Thanks to SuBe for reporting!)
New Content
- New Zoa: Added "Meownace," the first Steel-type Zoa you can encounter in the game.
- New Status: Scared: A Scared Zoa cannot be swapped out of battle.
- New Status: Cursed: A Cursed Zoa cannot be healed. Any healing attempt will damage it instead.
- New Move: Void: This move inflicts the "Cursed" status on its target.
Battle System Updates
- Added new move targeting functionality. Moves can now target:
- Multiple Zoa
- Partner Zoa (allies on the same side)
- Random targets
- No target (e.g., setting weather conditions)
Balancing & Tweaks
- Ashadow no longer learns "Overdrive" by leveling up, as it didn't fit its design. It can still learn the move through breeding.
- The move "Shadow Swipe" now inflicts the "Scared" status condition.
- Increased the amount of EXP gained from battles. You should now level up about 15% faster in the early game.
- Increased the levels of untamed (wild) Zoa to make them more challenging.
- Added several re-growing berry bushes to Route 1.
Events & Scripting
- The player can no longer flee from certain scripted battles.
- Improved the sound design for a specific cutscene to make it spookier. :)
- In the starting area, Prof Cypress will now correctly offer to heal your starter Zoa when it's damaged (this fixes the critical bug mentioned above).
- Fixed an event in the Cliff area that would incorrectly re-trigger every time you re-entered the map. (Thanks again, SuBe!)
Visuals & Engine
- Fixed minor visual inconsistencies in the Journal menu.
- Made several tileset optimizations, including improvements to shadow transparency.
- Streamlined (centralized) several GPU and battle functions (like healing) in the background to improve code maintainability. (This does not affect gameplay.)
- Added a new internal tag system for moves and Zoas. This is a background change that will allow for more complex move interactions in the future.
Known Issues
- Some NPCs may teleport out of bounds when entering or exiting buildings.
- Workaround: Saving and reloading the game will fix their position for now.
